Most tarantulas need a 5 to 10 gallon glass or plastic tank. Terrestrial tarantulas need more floor space then height. Ariel tarantulas need more height then floor space. It does not matter if it is leaking or not. The most important thing about your tarantularium is that your arachnid can not escape and that your screen or top is securely down.
My tank is;
Width = 2ft and a quarter
Height = 1ft and a quarter
Width from side = 1ft and a quarter
Substrate
There are a number of things you can use for your T.'s substrate. Right now I am using vermiculite with some sand thats what ive got. You can use that or peat moss, potting soil (The good kind from the gardening store with no chemicals in it), Bed-A-Best, or others, but I would only recommend these listed.
There should be at least three inches of substrate. More if it is a burrowing species, about 5 inches.
Remember not to put any foliage, leaves, or anything else like that on the bottom of your tarantulas tank because they are clumsy animals and will never find crickets with ten inches of leaves on the bottom of their cage. If you like to decorate your T.'s tank like that then you must feed it in a separate tank, but if you ask me that's just a waste.
Water
There should always be an open, shallow water dish. It should be refilled about every two days. Don't put in a sponge because it may grow bacteria.
All species vary on how many days they should be misted, but a Rose Hair should be misted two times a week.
Water is vital to your tarantula. It can survive for weeks without food but quickly die without water. A small container such as a coffee jar lid half-filled with water will provide drinking water and help keep the humidity up.
